A4E and Derby College appoint Leaf as IT support Service

A4E and Derby College have appointed Leaf Systems and hardware providers XMA to work with them on the current ICT refresh project as part of their OLASS contracts across the United Kingdom. We are very proud to have been chosen to work in partnership with both A4E and XMA on this exciting project and look forward to establishing a close working relationship with the staff at each establishment as we develop and improve the use of IT and elearning in Offender Education. Leaf will be managing and maintaining education IT systems in direct partnership with A4E and Derby in 23 establishments in Kent, East of England, Birmingham and HMP Haverigg in the NW.

Leaf become exclusive partner to I-Desk

I-Desk Solutions, creators of the world’s first integrated PC desk and winner of a number of education innovation and design awards have chosen to work with Leaf as their exclusive worldwide partner in the delivery of I-Desk products into the custodial environment. I-Desk have been working directly with a number of prisons across the UK for over three years and have proven solutions at such busy local establishments as HMP Gloucester. I-Desk have patents and academic distribution channels in Australia, the USA, Canada and China and are looking to work with Leaf in growing the market for the already successful products in the challenging environments that Leaf are working in.

New Induction systems at HMP Wandsworth and HMP Lewes

Leaf is very pleased to be working with two new HMP establishments, HMP Lewes and HMP Wandsworth. Both establishments will be integrating the Leaf Interactive Induction system with the addition of the Leaf interactive skills assessment tool at HMP Wandsworth.

IT in the South West

Leaf are pleased to be able to announce that we have been appointed to work with Strode College on the ICT Refresh project across the South West over the coming 12 months. Having offered IT maintenance and support to over half of the establishments across the region and having worked successfully with Strode for over a year – Leaf have been asked to manage and maintain education IT systems across all 13 establishments in the region.

Leaf will be providing IT support and engineering services aswell as working with Strode College in providing new IT equipment to the region as part of their OLASS contract with the LSC.

Leaf Staff Receive Award at HMP Wealstun

Matthew Preston of Leaf Systems and members of the Education and Security departments have been awarded the HMP Wealstun's 'Team of the Month' award for their contributions as part of the ICT Steering Group. The nomination arose from the prison’s successful delivery of two projects funded under the NIACE EEOLS banner. Members of the team will receive their awards from the prison governor at the Staff Recognition Function on October 24th.

Bupa Great North Run

We were all very proud when Leah Logan, Leaf Systems company secretary, entered the 2007 Bupa Great North Run in aid of Brest Cancer Campaign http://www.breastcancercampaign.org and finished the 13 mile course in a very respectable 2 hours 30 minutes and raised over £500 for the charity. Leah has run the race before in 2004 for the same charity and would like to thank those of you who sponsored her this year.

Criminal Justice Management Conference

Leaf exhibited at the 7th Annual Criminal Justice Management Conference which took place on 10th October in central London and would like to thank everyone who took the time to visit the stand and talk to us about our services. For the first time at a conference, Leaf took an interactive kiosk and demonstrated the new touch-screen systems we have been developing for a number of custodial environments.

City and Islington College choose Leaf for OLASS data.

City and Islington College have chosen to implement the Leaf Management Information System for their OLASS contract data management provision. The Leaf system will be used to collect, manage and record data for the college at two of the busiest local prisons in Europe: HMP Holloway and HMP Pentonville.

Both prisons provide a number of unique challenges and we are very proud to be working with City and Islington on this exciting project and engaging fully with the college and prison staff at both establishments.

Matters 2 Me

This Autumn sees the launch of the feature length animated child protection DVD, Matters 2 Me. Written by leading child protection expert Mark Williams-Thomas and in association with Enough Abuse, Matters 2 Me covers all aspects of child protection in an informative and engaging animated video and has been animated by Leaf at our studio in Bristol.

The DVD is fronted and introduced by Julie Walters - award winning actress, she says, "I am delighted to be involved with Matters2Me and believe promoting understanding and education to parents, carers and children in how to recognise the early signs of grooming, before abuse happens, is vitally important,and the most effective way to help reduce the numbers of children abused every year.

 Leaf are enormously proud to have been asked to animate the film and the September launch sees the culmination of many months of work by the design team and animators to bring everything together.

Custodial Review Magazine Features Leaf Induction

This month’s Custodial Review Magazine features a three page interview with Janet Walker, Head of Learning and Skills at HMP Lindholme. Janet talks about the prison’s commitment to the use of the Leaf Interactive Induction System. The interview discusses the success of implementing the interactive, multilingual system in the establishment and its use not only in two dedicated classrooms on the wings, but also in the care and separation unit. Criminal Justice Magazine NIACE special

Matthew Preston, Leaf’s Northern Regional Manager, continues his series of articles for Criminal Justice Management Magazine this month with a look at the success of the NIACE EEOLS projects involving Leaf Systems.  Matthew’s most recent article: The Opportunities of Excellence examines such diverse projects as the Bullwood Hall intranet and e-learning television channel to the development and implementation of an interactive induction system for the population at Category A establishment, HMP Full Sutton. Enabling Business Improvement: Exploiting Technology in Offender Management

Leaf were proud to have been asked to exhibit at the recent Ministry of Justice, NOMS and EDS conference and be given the opportunity to showcase some of our recent work in the field of Offender Management. This two day event brought together senior management and key stakeholders from across the country and allowed us to engage further with the invited audience about the innovative use of technology in both custody and the community.

Leaf products available on Polaris

We are very proud to be able to say that Leaf will be providing a number of products to London prisons across the Polaris Network. Phase one of the Polaris rollout will be joining up the education departments in each of the London prisons and Leaf have been asked to customize our already well regarded Interactive Induction System and our Management Information System. This will allow us to continue to develop the many tools we have already had success with and see them used across all the prisons in London. Leaf will also be providing a number of e-learning modules and interactive courseware applications.

Partnership with Western Counties Accredited Centre

It has long been a desire to increase our capacity of training delivery, through either e-learning material or direct delivery and we have been working with the Western Counties Accredited Centre in developing a partnership that will allow Leaf to expand this service across the South West and beyond.

The OCR accredited centre has been delivering training in Dorset and the surrounding areas for over ten years, will be further developed to offer management training, customer service and other industry qualifications and become a greater part of the Leaf offering to our valued customers and clients.

Leaf is commissioned to implement the Leaf MIS and Interactive Induction system into HMPs Swaleside, Elmley and Standford Hill. The systems will be used across the cluster to fulfil a number of targeted needs including education and intervention. Leaf has already developed a highly functional management information system which the cluster will be using in association with our induction system. Leaf is very proud to be working on this exciting project with such a forward thinking management team as those at the cluster.

Leaf Director Appointed Chief Technical Officer (CTO) for Vodafone UK:

John Logan, Co- Founder of Leaf Systems, has taken a few months out of his work with Leaf to take up the role of Chief Technical Officer for Vodafone UK. John has previously held a number of high profile roles within Vodafone and has been asked to step into the role of CTO for Vodafone UK in the short term. Leaf is very proud to be able to support John in this and would like to assure everyone that this will not affect Leaf’s operational business while John is away.

Professor David Wilson addresses UfI Learndirect conference:

Following the publication of the ESF Pathways evaluation report, authored by Matt Logan and Professor David Wilson at the start of the year, Professor Wilson was asked to give a presentation at the Learndirect,  “putting the ‘e’ into offender education”, conference. Leaf Non Executive board member, Professor Wilson spoke on the findings of the report and gave an insight into “Ethnography” and its use in evaluations of this type. The report was also featured in this month’s Criminal Justice Management Magazine.
